Mount Isa Water Board thanks the community for their cooperation in heeding the message to spend the Easter long weekend at home.
Last week MIWB advised the community of the partial closures in place on the R48 Reserve in line with the Queensland Government response to the COVID-19 pandemic. MIWB also appealed to the community to cancel any plans to go camping over the long weekend.
“It was gratifying to not need to move a single camper on” MIWB Chief Executive Stephen Farrelly said “but also to see many members of our community out, just individually or with a friend, enjoying this precious space and getting the exercise we all need”.
Warrina Park, colloquially known as Peacock Park, all public toilet facilities and barbecues remain closed to the public. Closures are lawfully enforceable, however MIWB’s practice has always been to appeal to the community for cooperation in matters like this.
Access to the Lake remains open and exercise by individuals or household groups remains a valid reason to leave the house.
“By all means grab the push bike or the kayak and make use of the Reserve” Mr Farrelly said “however, leave the motorbike and the boat at home and social barbecues are completely out of the question”.
MIWB reminds the public that while there are special arrangements during the COVID-19 event, the long-standing rules also continue to apply:
• No Camping
• No Dogs
• No commercial activities
In consultation with the relevant Authorities, MIWB will continue to monitor to ensure all measures were being respected.
“The Board wants to keep the Reserve open” Mr Farrelly said “but that will only be possible while the public are working with us on this”.
Mount Isa Water Board is the Trustee for the 11,000 hectare R48 Reserve for Water and Recreation purposes, the land surrounding Lake Moondarra.
